I hope this finds you well. I wanted to introduce ourselves, who we are, what we do and how we found ourselves on this path of well being so that some of the things we may say - might resonate something within you to start questioning 'why am i not happy'?
My personal background is that I'm ex RAF, i've served in Afghanistan and Iraq several times, had several businesses, chased a dream of success and materialism...when i got what I wanted i constantly said "What's next?" consistently pushing the happiness goal post further and further away...never present in the moment, always curious to find what else might make me feel happy.
I wanted to mention this before because I want you to know that healing, spirituality, well being, holistic practices isn't just what the Western world considers as 'Woo Woo'.
After i personally suffered with stress and a constant battle with my own mind I went on a journey of healing and self discovery.
I found out that my subconscious mind, conditioning, society weren't serving me to lead a happy life.
Your personal experiences dictate your personality - unfortunately our brains fixate on the bad experiences and anchoring a negative emotion to those experiences. Your brain starts 'protecting' you, with thought;
"Don't do that"
"You can't do that"
"You feel like this because of XYZ"
A stressed mind, has 60,000 thoughts per day - 90% of which you had yesterday and 90% of those thoughts are the same as you'll have tomorrow. Imagine someone following you around all day whispering into your ear negativity from the moment you wake up till the moment you fall asleep. You would want rid of them-surely? Yet we don't do the work to quiet the mind - we turn to quick fixes like alcohol, TV, phones to distract.
That bubbling cauldron of emotion and stress will eventually overflow into panic attacks, depression, anxiety, physical illness and more.
Is it no surprise that auto immune, heart attacks, cancers, are all on the rise? It's because we're being as far from a "Human being" and more a "Human doing".
If we all lived free, present, happy and felt unconditional love for yourself and those around you - would you be making the same choices?
Would you need that designer hand bag to look successful and make you happy?
Would we turn to alcohol to make you feel high and forget life for a brief moment?
Would you work harder to afford the next big house, a bigger mortgage or a fancier car - so that you can drive to work just to pay that debt off?
Are these questions that we should be asking ourselves?
Who are we doing all this for? External validation? That same validation we craved because we were praised for doing right when we were infants or at school and in our little sponge minds we want that same acceptance and validation in adult hood?
I'm writing this to just get those cogs whirring - because quite frankly, if you aren't happy - and you've not been happy for sometime then you may need to start doing the internal healing work to change that.
Insanity - is doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result?
Is insanity seeing someone walking barefoot on the grass because it reduces inflammation in the body, heals the body and helps you become more present in the only moment that matters - the now.
Is insanity having a gong bath - a healing instrument that has been around for thousands of years that can help release emotion rather than letting it fester inside you?
Remember, your beliefs are what you've been told or listened to, if you were born in a Buddhist temple you'd have a completely different set of beliefs than what we've been told in the Western World.
Happiness and love reside within us all. Start peeling those layers back and you will find the love that is within you. It is a journey well worth making.
